Eastleigh Bonsai Society

On this page we'll present a summary of past events and a calendar of upcoming activities.

2008 Show Programme
 
The season opener was held on 16 February and hosted by Swindon and District Bonsai Society with their well renowned Winter Image Show.  This year it was so busy that we couldn't get enough distance to take pictures to show you the disaly we undertook with Solent Bonsai Society.  We had three trees with some new watercolour images representing human virtues.

Swindon and District Bonsai Society’s

Winter Image Show

A classic and well-established show held at Coalview Community Centre, Swindon.  With this being, the first show of the season it is always well attended and the quality of the exhibits is of the highest standard.

The Federation of British Bonsai Societies’ final of the New Talent Conpetition is held here with the winner moving on to Vienna in April.

Bonsai @ Broadlands - Easter

This is a small but now a firm favourite show where we have a small exhibit of bonsai and a workshop area.  Well supported by the general public and an event that we have shared with Solent Bonsai Society for a number of years.  An ideal last opportunity to finish the repotting.

European Bonsai Association’s

Convention – Vienna, Austria

This is the annual gathering of the good, the bad and the ugly of the European Bosai Association and the European Suiseki Association.  The executive decision making vehicle of the Association (boring) and  a grand exhibit of European bonsai.  The European Bonsai Association will hold the New Talent Competition Final here.

Wessex Bonsai Society’s

Annual Open Show

Wessex host an annual exhibition of high quality bonsai, suiseki and other arts.  A regular event in our Calendar this one day event is an eye popper with  high quality trees amd Society displays from across Britain on our doorstep.

Our next show will be our Bonsai@Broadlands.Easter event.  Solent Bonsai Society and Eastleigh Bonsai Society will be displaying bonsai and working on material to demonstrate some of the techniques that we use.
 
Details of the general event will be published nearer the time by RBT Events who are managing the Hampshire Spring Craft & Garden Show
 

2008 Meeting Programme

Our next meeting is on Monday March 10th at the Greggs School, Swaythling.  At this meeting we will be taking the opportunity to do some repotting as a workshop.  With the recent warm weather and the current cold snap we are entering the busy phase of the repotting season, join us and refresh your thoughts in this vital area of bonsai.
 
Beginers or experienced, artistic or scientific, young or old all are welcome...

The Chairman of the Association of British Bonsai Artists shares the knowledge he gained working on his degree thesis at Sparsholt College Hampshire. His degree thesis looked at the growing properties of akadama and control soils and found some unexpected results

Pine Consortium

With the New Forest on our doorstep, it is no surprise that we have several people developing their knowledge with pines, which now stands out as the avante garde of bonsai technique for pines. We have assembled a small panel to share their unique insight into growing maintaining and developing pines and their styling keys.

Bonsai Srtist and Owner of Bushukan Bonsai at Ricbra, Lower Road, Hockley, Essex SS5 5NL were Chris has been practicing her bonsai for a little while now and will take us on her journey to RHS Chelsea.  Her journey to exhibiting at Chelsea Flower Show.  “Why?”, “How?” and the result, and my reasoning behind my journey.  Or may be just about my experiences with Bonsai in general.

GENERAL

MEETING

Not everyone’s favourite meeting but an important meeting to support the Society through next year.  We traditionally manage the formal business of the meeting within half an hour, conducting all of the business required under our Constitution, followed up with the opportunity to share ideas over an American Supper.
